Accountancy Co-operative The Team

YOUR TEAM

Accountancy Co-operative began as a Workers Co-operative and has carefully evolved to keep up with changes in the business climate into the private limited company we are today. Even though we are no longer technically a Co-op we have continued to uphold and support the business ethics that working co-operatively means.

Between our modest team we handle around 200 different clients, including: Limited Companies, Co-operatives, Self-Employed People: Sole Traders & Partnerships, Private Investors, Charities & other Community Organisations.

Team members have many different skill sets and different areas of expertise to offer, making the Accountancy Coop versatile and unique.

Martin Arthur (FMAAT, FFA, FFTA, MIH, ACIE)

Martin is our Managing Director and has been with the Accountancy Co-operative since 1994, and is a Licensed Practitioner and Fellow Member of The AAT (The Association of Accounting Technicians) and The IFA (Institute of Financial Accountants) which means that he is licensed to engage in public practice in the following areas:

  • Accountancy (Book-Keeping, Financial & Management Accounting, Accounts Preparation, Budgeting & Forecasting, Payroll)
  • Taxation (Value Added Tax, Personal Income Tax, Business Income Tax, Corporation Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Inheritance Tax)
  • Consultancy (Business Plans, Computerised Accountancy Systems, Company Secretarial Services, Independent Examination)

  • He is a Fellow Member of the FTA (Federation of Tax Advisors) and is able to provide a full range of tax planning and advice services.

Martin comes from a management accountancy (corporate & industrial) and hospitality management background, giving him a useful practical perspective in hotel and catering businesses, and management accounting for limited companies. His professional experience also covers general financial accounting, VAT, PAYE and income tax, as well as business development for small companies and the self-employed. He has also worked as treasurer for a church charity and is a Full Member of the Association of Charity Independent Examiners.

Martin has a particular interest in the set-up and development of computer systems, which has given him a good solid knowledge of the Sage Accounting and Payroll packages.

Nik is our Administrative Manager who has been with us since 2004, and she will probably be the first person you will have contact with when you call or pop into the office to see us.

Her previous work experience has been with the Civil Service as a Benefits Agency Customer Service Adviser, so she has a broad knowledge of Benefit entitlements.

Nik runs nearly all of our in-house admin, performs basic accounts work. She is online to the revenue a lot of the time so gets new information from HMRC first hand.

Involved in charity work and with no less than four children, Nik is well qualified to keep the rest of us under control here at the Coop! Various medals about to be awarded!- Ed.

David Sweeney joined the Coop in 2007 and took over many of Peter's clients when Peter retired in Feb08.

David brings new experience and skills into the Coop and has impressed us with his understanding of customer businesses, his keen help, efficiency and eye for detail. - Welcome to the team, David.

He has a strong background in providing general, business development and tax advice to the retail, leisure and care sectors, involving sole trader, partnership and limited company structured businesses.

David has moved his focus from children's football coaching to initiating new humanitarian charity projects across the world.

Sue joined the Accountancy Co-operative in August 2000, and is a Member of The AAT. She started in the Assurance Industry and migrated to Accountancy. Sue is now sub-contracted by us and is still very much regarded as part of the team.

Her experience also covers general financial accounting, VAT, PAYE and income tax, and business development for small companies and the self-employed. She is fully familiar with church charities and is an Independent Examiner for other local and regional charities.

Sue was also involved in the set-up of a successful debt-counselling group and also has particular knowledge of Sage and other accounting systems.

Suzie has worked in payroll for many years, understanding that all clients' needs vary immensely and that payroll needs to be accurate.

She learned the ropes and built-up her personal skills and expertise working on payrolls of up to a thousand employees. Suzie then moved into the completely different environment of working with Accountants processing their portfolio of clients' payrolls. Although each payroll may be relatively small, she has developed the additional skill of juggling so as to meet each individual client's requirements from deadlines to reporting, as well as being available to provide support to them and their employees in difficult areas such as maternity leave, Paternal Leave, Real Time Information and dealing with HMRC.

Payroll Office direct number is 0844 809 9346 or email payroll@accountancy.coop

    Bobbi (Kennel Club Member)

Bobbi is an important part of the Accountancy Co-operative team, and voluntarily keeps the premises safe and cleans up after (and during) lunches. She's always felt at home in Accountancy, well... actually, anywhere!

She makes an extremely effective door-bell, doubles as a shredding machine during power-cuts and has been known to spit out the odd Tax Inspector who didn't taste as nice as her favourite bone.

Bobbi also sometimes enjoys lots of attention and group therapy sessions, long walks in the countryside and socialising with other like-minded skye terriers.
